Stadium History

Comiskey Park was built on the site of a former dump purchased by Charles Comiskey in 1909. Comiskey Park served as the replacement for the old South Side Park. The park was originally called White Sox Park before being renamed after Comiskey three years later; the White Sox Park name returned in 1962 before going back to Comiskey Park in 1976. The park was very pitcher-friendly, a design influenced by Sox pitcher and eventual Hall of Famer Ed Walsh. Changes were made eventually to make the park more neutral, but it continued to favor pitching over hitting.

Throughout its lifetime, Comiskey Park was often packed with fans, even during its last few years of service as the home of the White Sox. The park surpassed the 2 million mark in attendance three times in the final eight seasons of the ballpark.

Comiskey Park was demolished in 1991. The site serves as a parking lot for US Cellular Field.

Trivia

Site of the 1933, 1950, and 1983 MLB All-Star Games.
Comiskey Park hosted three World Series for the White Sox (1917, 1919, and 1959) and one for the Cubs (1918).
Comiskey Park also hosted the infamous Disco Demolition Night.
