Overall Career
Once a Florida Marlins first-round draft pick in 1998, Chip Ambres did not reach Triple-A until 2005 when he signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox. In 84 games at Pawtucket, Ambres hit .294 with 10 home runs, 20 doubles and 50 RBI. He was traded with Juan Cedeno to the Kansas City Royals on July 19 for Tony Graffanino. Hit a couple of dingers right off, but then quickly returned to his level. Which is to say, not very good. A AAAA type.
On December 27, 2006, Ambres signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. He was called up to New York on July 17, 2007 to replace Damion Easley, who was placed on the bereavement list to be with his ailing father. Five days later, in his third (and final) at-bat as a Met, Ambres hit a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning to lift the Mets to a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The single, his first big league hit in almost two years, would turn out to be his only hit for the Mets as he was designated for assignment on July 24.
