Charles Henry "Chick" Shorten was born on April 19, 1892, in Scranton, PA. Shorten was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 22, 1915, with the Boston Red Sox.
Shorten had an eight-year career as an outfielder. In 527 games be batted .275 with 370 hits, 3 HR and 134 RBI. After his playing days, he extended his baseball career to more than 50 years as a longtime scout for Cleveland.
