Chicago has been the home city for two major league teams in the American League and National League:

  • The Chicago White Sox are current members of the American League Central and have been a major league team since 1901.
  • The Chicago Cubs are current members of the National League Central and have been a major league team since 1876. They have previously been known as the Chicago White Stockings (1876-1889), the Chicago Colts (1890-1897), and the Chicago Orphans (1898-1902).
