Overall Career
Chad Fonville was born on March 5, 1971 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He attended Louisburg Junior College. Fonville was drafted 299th overall (11th round) by the San Francisco Giants in the 1992 amateur draft. He played with several teams during his career. As an Expo in 1995 Fonville made his Major League debut as a pinch runner against the Cubs on April 28 in 1995; furthermore, he was caught stealing in that game by Mike Walker. He finished his rookie season batting .278 after he was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was hitting .333 in 14 games before being waved by the Expos.
After bouncing around the league, he was signed by the Red Sox on February 4, 1999. He played in three consecutive games from July 7 to July 9. The games spanning July 7 and 8, Fonville entered the game as a pinch runner; however, he started and second base on July 9 against the Atlanta Braves. In four plate appearances Fonville walked twice, grounded out twice and scored one run. This was the last game of his Major League Career. Fonville was a career .244 hitter with zero home runs and 31 RBI's, primarily playing 2B and 3B.
