He was acquired by the Red Sox from the Houston Astros for Adam Everett and minor leaguer Greg Miller on December 14, 1999. He made his Red Sox debut on April 4, 2000 and played his final game for the Sox on September 8, 2001. On December 12, 2001, he was traded to the Texas Rangers for starting pitcher, Darren Oliver.

Awards

  • 2-time American League All-Star (2000 & 2003)

Everett's Moment's in the Sun

  • September 2, 2001 - With two outs in the ninth, Everett's pinch-hit single to left center broke up Mike Mussina's perfect game bid. Mussina had retired 26 consecutive Red Sox batters and was ahead of Everett on the count, 0-2, when the journeyman hit his mark. This feat is made even more impressive by the fact that, prior to this plate appearance, Everett was 1 for 8 with 7 strikeouts against Mussina on the season.
  • Jurassic Carl referred to Globe writer Dan Shaughnessy as the "curly-haired boyfriend" of fellow Globe writer Gordon Edes. ESPN.com columnist and Red Sox fan Bill "The Sports Guy" Simmons began applying the nickname, and now Shaughnessy is regularly referred to as "CHB."
  • "God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve. The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Someone actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus rex." ~ Carl Everett, Sports Illustrated, 2000.

Trivia

  • Carl Everett believes in neither dinosaurs nor called strikes.
  • In 2000, Everett set the Red Sox record for most home runs in a season by a switch-hitter with 34.
