The state of California is the home of various American League and National League teams:

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are current members of the American League West and have been a major league team since 1961. They have previously been known as the Los Angeles Angels (1961-1964), California Angels (1965-1996), and Anaheim Angels (1997-2004).
The Los Angeles Dodgers are current members of the National League West and have been a major league team since 1884. They previously played in Brooklyn, most notably as the Brooklyn Dodgers and Brooklyn Robins from 1911-1957.
The Oakland Athletics are current members of the American League West and have been a major league team since 1901. They have previously been known as the Philadelphia Athletics (1901-1954) and the Kansas City Athletics (1955-1967).
The San Diego Padres are current members of the National League West and have been a major league team since 1969.
The San Francisco Giants are current members of the National League West and have been a major league team since 1883. They have previously been known as the New York Gothams (1883-1884) and the New York Giants (1885-1957).
