Overall Career

Pitched for San Diego, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Detroit before coming to Boston and getting hit in the face.

On Sept. 8, 2000, in a game against the Yankees, Florie's cheekbone was fractured by a line drive off of the bat of Ryan Thompson. In addition to his cheekbone, his orbital socket was broken and he suffered damage to his retina. Surgery was required to relieve the pressure caused by the injury and to save not only his vision, but his eye.

Florie's Moments in the Sun

On June 28, 2001, Bryce Florie returned to the mound for the first time since being struck in the face by the line drive on September 8, 2000. His unlikely return was greeted by a standing ovation at Fenway Park.
