Overall Career

Bryant Lawrence Nelson (born January 27, 1974 in Crossett, Arkansas) is a long time minor leaguer, who started his professional career in 1994. After 3 years in the Houston Astros organization, 3 years in the Chicago Cubs organization, a year and a half with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization and a half a year with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, the 28 year old signed on with the Red Sox in 2002, starting the year in Pawtucket. He was called up to the Red Sox on the May 14 (taking the place of Manny Ramirez who went on the DL with his finger injury), and made his major league debut later that day (as a Pinch Runner). He would get his first start on the May 27, a game in which he collected his first Major League Hit.

Bryant would stay on the Major League team until July 20 (as Dustin Hermanson came off the DL), having made sporadic appearances, mostly as a pinch runner. The Red Sox did not even honor his service with a September call-up. For his year in Boston, he went .265/.342/.353 with 3 doubles. In Pawtucket, Nelson hit .296/.340/.466 with 8 doubles and 8 HRs.

He parlayed his year in Boston to a contract with Daiei of the Japan League where he spent 2003. He would come back to play AAA ball for the White Sox in 2004 and Toronto in 2005. Shunned by Major League Organizations, Bryant Nelson played his 2006 ball with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
