Overall Career

Bret William "Sabes" Saberhagen (born April 11, 1964 in Chicago Heights, IL) joined the Red Sox after compiling an impressive Major League resume. By the time he was 21, he was the ace of a World Championship team in the 1985 Kansas City Royals. He also earned the first of two Cy Young awards, and was named World Series MVP. Shoulder injuries limited him in the final decade of his career. He had rotator cuff surgery in 1996, and spent much of his time with the Sox rehabbing his shoulder. Nevertheless, he helped the Red Sox to consecutive post-season appearances in 1998 and 1999.
