Franchise History

The oldest continuous franchise in baseball, the original Boston team had several unofficial nicknames: "Red Stockings", "Red Caps", "Beaneaters", "Doves" and "Pilgrims". Following the 1935 season, they were known as the "Bees", though it never really caught on. Although their home uniforms in this interval were changed to feature a large block letter 'B'. The team dropped the nickname in 1941, using only the official name "Braves" from 1941 on. They played at Braves Fields, which is now the soccer field for BU, Nickerson Field. Part of the bleachers still exist today. The team moved to Milwaukee in 1953, then to Atlanta in 1966.
