Bob Montgomery was born on April 16, 1944 in Nashville Tennessee. Bob played catcher (mostly as a backup for Carlton Fisk) for the Red Sox from 1970 to 1979.

He is most famous in the Boston area for his post playing days as a the color commentator for Red Sox Games on WSBK TV 38.

Montgomery currently works for Cox TV3 in Rhode Island serving as an analyst for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox

  • Ended his career with .258 lifetime batting average, 156 RBIs, 23 Homeruns, 125 runs, 50 doubles, 8 triples.
  • Was the last Major Leaguer to bat without a helmet since he was grandfathered in when helmets were made a requirement in 1971.
