Overall Career
Robert George "King Kong" Kline was born on December 9, 1909, in Enterprise, Ohio. Kline was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 17, 1930, with the Boston Red Sox. Kline had a 5-year career as an rigth handed pitcher. He finished with a record of 30-28 with 87 Ks and a 5.05 ERA in 441.2 innings. At the plate he batted .202 in 124 at bats.
Alternating a fastball with a sinker he learned from roommate Wilcy Moore, Kline won 11 games for the hapless 1932 Red Sox. In 1934, he led the AL in relief wins (7) despite a 7.21 ERA.
