Overall Career

Baudilio Jose "Seijas" Diaz (borh March 23, 1953 in Cua, Venezuela) was a solid defensive catcher. Playing behind Carlton Fisk, he only appeared in 2 games while a member of the Boston Red Sox. Traded to the Cleveland Indians, he became their starting catcher in the early 1980s, and even an All-Star in the strike-distorted 1981 season. The rebuilding Philadelphia Phillies gave up Lonnie Smith in a three-cornered trade to acquire Diaz, who replaced Bob Boone in their lineup. He also started for Cincinnati later in the decade, making another All-Star team in 1987.

• 2 Time All-Star (1981, 1987)
• Threw out Robby Thompson on four stolen base attempts (June 27, 1986).
• Hit a 2-out walkoff grand slam to turn a 9-6 deficit into a 10-9 Phillies win over the Mets (April 13, 1983).

Trivia

• Part of a 6 player trade with the Cleveland Indians that brought Dennis Eckersley to the Boston Red Sox.

• Bo was killed on Novemeber 23, 1990 at his home in Venezuela when a rooftop satellite he was installing toppled over and crushed him. He was 37. Several reports stated that Diaz might have been struck by lightning during the incident, potentially making him and Geremi Gonzalez the first battery to have (A) played for the Sox, (B) been from Venezuela, and ( C) died as a direct or indirect result of an electrical storm.
