Overall Career
William George Rogell was born on November 24, 1904, in Springfield, Illinois. Rogell was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 14, 1925, with the Boston Red Sox.
Rogell had a 14-year career as a major league short stop. In 1,482 games he batted .267 with 42 HR and 609 RBI. He led AL shortstops in fielding for three years, 1935-37, and in assists for two, 1934-35. He played in the 1934 and 1935 World Series with the Tigers. Eventually, he injured his shoulder playing handball after the 1938 season and in 1939, his arm went dead.
