Overall Career

William Charles "Bill" Monbouquette (born August 11, 1936 in Medford, MA), was the ace of the weak Red Sox teams in the early 1960's. Monboquette won at least 14 games four straight years, peaking in 1963 with a 20-10 mark. During Monbo's Major League Baseball career, which spanned 11 seasons, he amassed 114 wins and 112 losses. After retirement Monbo bounced around baseball with different coaching jobs, before officially retiring within the Red Sox organization in 2006.

Moment in the Sun

  • Monbo pitched a no-hitter against the White Sox in Chicago on August 1, 1962. He gave up only a walk to Al Smith in the second inning. Losing pitcher that night was Early Wynn, trying to win his 300th game and in the process losing the game 1-0
  • Earlier in his career, Monbo struck out 17 Senators in a 2-1 Sox victory.
  • In 1965 Bill was traded to the Tigers for the two George's, Smith and Thomas.
