Overall Career
William Harmong "Good Time Bill" Lamar was born on March 21, 1897 in Rockville, Maryland. Lamar was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 19, 1917 with the New York Yankees.
Lamar had a 9-year career as a major league outfielder. In 550 games he batted .310 with 633 hits, 19 HR and 245 RBI. He had a great year in 1925 when he had 202 hits, including a 29 game hit streak and a .356 average. Two years after he hit .356 for the A's they traded him to Washington. When he refused to report without a raise, he was suspended for the season and never again played in the majors.
