Overall Career
William Joseph "Whispering Bill" Barrett was born on May 28, 1900, in Cambridge, MA. Barrett was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on May 13, 1921, with the Philadelphia Athletics. Barrett had a 9-year career as an outfielder. In 718 games he batted .288 with 23 HR and 328 RBI.
Barrett was primarily a singles hitter and batted .307 in 1926, his best full season. He was the league's worst fielding shortstop (.904) with the White Sox in 1924, after which he usually played right field.
After his baseball career, he was a salesman For Seagrams Liquors.
