Benjamin Joyce "Baldy" Karr was born on November 28, 1893, in Mount Pleasant, Mississippi. Karr was 26 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 20, 1920, with the Boston Red Sox.
Karr had a 6-year career as a right handed pitcher. He finished with a 35048 record, 180 Ks and a 4.60 ERA in 780.1 innings. Karr both started and relieved; a .245 batter, he also pinch-hit 79 times. With Boston he had AL highs of six relief losses in 1920 and five relief wins in 1921.
