Overall Career
Benjamin Ambrosia Oglivie (born February 11, 1949 in Colon, Panama)started his professional baseball career in 1968, signing with the Red Sox after being drafted in the 11th Round out of the Bronx, NY. He began his professional career with the Jamestown Falcons of the New-York Penn League, Batting .289 while slugging .378 in 16 games. He started the 1969 seasong with the Greenville Red Sox of the Western Carolinas League, Batting .317 with a Slugging of .463 in 106 games. This earned him a promotion to the Winter Haven Red Sox for the final 11 games of the season, batting .250 and slugging .281. He spent the 1970 season close to Boston, playing the entire season in AA Pawtucket, where he struggled, finishing the season Batting .233 while slugging .348. Despite the struggle, the 22 year old was promoted to AAA Louisville to start the 1971 season, where he quickly forgot his struggles of the previous year. He hit .304 while slugging .498. This earned Ben the September call-up, where he went .263/.263/.342 in 14 games.
Ben spent all season in Boston in 1972, playing in 94 games and hitting .241/.293/.391. He played less in 1973 (58 games), hitting .218/.269/.333. He was traded in October to Detroit for Dick McAuliffe.
Ben spent 4 years in Detroit, putting up fairly consistent numbers (~.280/.330/.430) before being traded to Milwaukee after the 1977 season. He would blossom in his first 3 years in Milwaukee, Batting over .300 twice, Putting up two OBPs over .360 and having 3 seasons with Slugging over .495. He was a consistent power threat, hitting a career high HR mark of 29 in 1979... and then breaking that milestone with a League Leading 41 the next season. His 1981 season was a precipitous decline (dropping to 14 HRs), and despite a power resurgance in 1981 (34 HRs), it was the start of his decline. His career would end after the 1986 season, with a career record of .273/.336/.450 with 235 HRs.
