Ben Cherington
From SoSH
Ben Cherington is the Red Sox current vice president of player personnel, after a successful three-year stint as director of player development. He was hired as an intern by Dan Duquette and retained and promoted by the Henry ownership group even after Duquette was fired in 2002.
Cherington, along with current assistant general manager Jed Hoyer, served as co-general manager of the Red Sox from December 12, 2005 to January 24, 2006 in the absence of Theo Epstein.
Cherington played baseball at Amherst College ('96), but had to quit after tearing his labrum. Prior to college Cherington played high school baseball at Lebanon High School ('92) in Lebanon NH. Cherington's Lebanon Raiders lost in the state finals (Laconia) in 1991 with Cherington getting the loss in extra innings after coming in in relief.
He is married to ESPN's Wendi Nix, a feat which has earned him hearty congratulations from most SoSHers.
