Summary: This novel portrays a young, disillusioned writer (Russ) who inadvertently wanders into the biggest story of his life when he befriends a rising star in the Red Sox organization. Russ's stalled career takes off when it is discovered that the sullen superstar will talk only with him, and he is asked to choose between being a friend and being a reporter. Although the book focuses on Russ's inner turmoil, it also features a lot of baseball action. The narrator is annoyingly depressing and immature, but the focus on a Red Sox star player makes it worth reading. If you like baseball fiction, you'll enjoy this book.
