Overview
Australian baseball is basically structured as a series of club teams. The Australian Baseball League (ABL), a professional league, existed for ten years but folded in 1989. Baseball is generally played in Australia from September to March.
Despite the lack of a professional program, Australia has produced a number of players, whom they've sent to MLB. Australia's proudest moment as a baseball country was winning the silver medal in the 2004 Olympics; however, this did not seem to have as much of an effect on the popularity of the sport as many had hoped.
