The Red Sox fielded a "co-operative" effort in the first year of the Arizona League with the Seattle Mariners. The team ended up being the only team in the initial AZL to have a losing record (12-47), and the team was co-operative in name only. Both the Mariners and Sox had their own managers and only played their own stable of players in the games they managed.

The Red Sox would move to the Gulf Coast League the next season.
