High School Career
Finished his HS season with a 9-0 record, a 1.76 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 68 innings. Converted to pitching his senior year of HS, had a 93-95 MPH fastball.
Pro Career
Signed for a then Sox-record $986,000 bonus, and made his pro debut in 1995 with the GCL Sox. Finished with a 0-1 record in 5 games, a 2.76 ERA and 17 Ks in 16 innings. He encountered problems his second year, in 1996, when his control deserted him. He finished 1-2 with Lowell, and a 6.29 ERA, but with 38 walks in 34 innings (he did strike out 30).
End of Career
Yount's career effectively ended in September 1996, when he cut the tendons in his right hand. According to his version, Yount was visiting a friend's grave, and in dispair, shattered a bottle of Coke, which cut his hand. His short comeback in 1998 failed, and he was released.
Trivia
Yount mounted a comeback attempt in 1999 as a fielder. [1]
