Overall Career
A local kid out of Boston College, Andrea Ettore Spognardi had a September cup of coffee with the 1932 Red Sox.
Spognardi appeared in only 17 games with the team, hitting .294 in 34 ABs, with a double, nine runs scored, and a lone RBI. He played the majority of his limited time at second base, but also appeared at Short and third.
On the season, the light-hitting 23-year-old finished at .294/.400/.324.
His major league career spanned 23 days, as he debuted on September 2, 1932 and played his final game on the September 25th.
Spognardi's Moments in the Sun
Before the 1933 season, Spognardi decided to give up baseball to attend Tufts Medical School. He practiced medicine as a family doctor until 1988. He died in Dedham on January 1, 2000 and is buried in Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain. Boston's own Archie "Moonlight" Graham!
