Overall Career
Ambrose Moses McConnell was born on April 29, 1883, in North Pownal, Vermont. McConnell was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 17, 1908, with the Boston Red Sox.
McConnell contributed 26 of the 1909 Red Sox' club-record 215 stolen bases and was one reason they were called The Speed Boys. McConnell had a 4-year career as a second baseman. He played a total of 409 games in the major leagues with a .264 average, 3 HR, and 119 RBI. After his playing days, he later managed in the minors and owned a club in the Canadian-American League.
