Scouting Report

  • Dykstra has big-time raw power which helped him dominate competition in the Atlantic Coast Conference during his freshman year at Wake Forest and again this summer. Though he hit .232, he had seven homers and a league-leading 29 RBIs. The big question with Dykstra is where to put him on the field. Most scouts don’t see him playing on the field on a regular basis, except for occasionally at first base.

Amateur Career

  • Sophomore year Allan was named named second team All-ACC and to the All-ACC Academic Team. Dykstra was also selected as a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, and included on the midseason watch list for the Brooks Wallace Award. Finished among the ACC leaders in home runs (18, t-1st), walks (57, 3rd), slugging percentage (.615, 5th), on-base percentage (.479, 5th), RBIs (60, 7th) and total bases (139, 8th). He started all 63 games for the Deacons, playing every out of the season at first base. Allan reached base safely in 60 of the 63 games and had a hit in all but 18 games last season.
  • In his 2006 freshman season, Dykstra was named ACC Rookie of the Year, and tabbed a Freshman All-American by Rivals.com, Louisville Slugger and Baseball America. He was selected to the 2006 Dick Howser Trophy Watch List, awarded annually to the top player in collegiate baseball by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and Louisville Slugger for the week of April 3 after going 11-for-14 (.786) with five home runs and 11 RBIs in a seven-day span. Dykstra led the ACC in OPS, slugging percentage and was tied for the lead in sacrifice flies and ranked second in home runs, third in walks and tied for third in on-base percentage.
