James Alexander Ferguson was born on February 16, 1897, in Montclair, NJ. Ferguson was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 16, 1918, with the New York Yankees.
Ferguson had a 1o-year career as a right handed pitcher. He finished with a 61-85 record, 397 Ks and a 4.93 ERA in 1,241.2 innings. Ferguson threw a forkball. He had his winningest season for the seventh-place 1924 Red Sox, when he won 14 while losing a league-high 17. Traded twice in 1925, he joined the Senators in late August, went 5-1 down the stretch, and pitched well in the World Series.
