  • 6/20 - The first walkoff win in Red Sox history came against the Chicago American League team, known in the contemporary press as the Champions. Fittingly, the game winner was delivered by Boston's first slugger, Buck Freeman. The win was their 13th in 14 games and moved Boston's AL club into first place.

Boston 4, Chicago 3

  • 8/13 - Boston's big bat, Buck Freeman, came through again as he plated the winning run with a hit in the 13th inning. The win put the Americans 4.5 games back of Chicago in the American League standings.

Boston 4, Philadelphia 3 - 13 innings

  • 8/19 - A crowd of 3200 at Huntington Avenue Grounds saw a spectacular see-saw battle between the Brewers and Americans. Trailing by one in the 7th, Tommy Dowd scampered home on a passed ball to knot the game. It would remain that way until Boston pushed a run across in the 13th to pull within a game and a half of Chicago for first place.

Boston 6, Milwaukee 5 - 13 innings

  • 8/27 - The Boston Daily Globe of August 28, 1901 exclaimed "A Better Game Never Seen at the Hub". Cy Young matched up against Roscoe Miller and dueled for 12 scoreless innings in the middle of the game. Tommy Dowd saved the day for the Americans in the 14th when he cut a Tiger down at home, preserving the tie. Boston scored the next inning and took home the win.

Boston 2, Detroit 1 - 15 innings

  • 9/16 (1) - Cy Young was called upon in relief, one of only two such appearances on the season, and he put out the fire, allowing the Boston club to position themselves for the win in extra innings. Outfielder Charlie Hemphill was the man that delivered the game winning blow.

Boston 6, Washington 5 - 10 innings

  • 9/26 - Buck Freeman led off the home half of the 9th with a single after Chicago tied the affair in their at-bat. Following Buck's single, Champions pitcher Nixey Callahan loaded the bases with two walks. Though faltering, he was left in to face another batter, a move that did not pay off. Callahan hit the next batter and forced in Freeman with the winning run.

Boston 3, Chicago 2

The Chicago ballclub did not manage even a single win in Boston for the entire season, yet still beat out the Americans in the Final Standings by 4 games.
