Looks like Bradley and Workman are about to be activated; Wilson (thumb) to DL, de la Torre optioned. Appears Ellsbury, Victorino active

It seems like JBJ will be playing off the bench given they did not DL one of the OF

That might just be because they haven't figured out which of the OF are going to need DLing the most.

It'll be good to have an actual CFer, and it will be nice to see what Workman has at this level.

Or, as Victorino is in tonight's lineup, I could be completely full of shit.

@ScottLauber

Farrell: Brandon Workman will have an opportunity to cement a spot in #RedSox' bullpen. He pitched in relief in college at Texas

Not a bandaid. Good scoop by McAdam yesterday, he mentioned internal discussions about it.

Looks like they DFA'd Jonathan Diaz a few days ago rather than optioning him as originally reported, as he's been outrighted to Pawtucket. Workman takes his spot on the 40-man.

Seems like Wilson was pitching with a bad thumb, which probably contributed to his 2 rotten outings in the last couple days. So maybe he isn't as terrible as a lot of people have been saying in the game threads (I know, game threads are for venting, it's not to be taken seriously.) Maybe when he gets healthy he can be a decent reliever for us again.

Since he could have been sent down, there would be no need to invent or exaggerate an injury to get him onto the DL, correct?

Really like getting Workman up in the bullpen.  The various articles and breakdowns on him on the 'net all make him sound like someone who would project better into throwing relief where he'll pick up velocity and not be asked to keep his mechanics perfectly in line for multiple innings in a row.

Now we just need Britton to start out hot in Pawtucket and we'll have a worthwhile young lefty option for the 'pen too if Breslow can't hold down the fort as the LOOGY.

Breslow isn't a LOOGY.

Breslow isn't a LOOGY.

Not by his splits, no, but right now if the club need to get a tough lefty out who else are they going to choose?  Farrell specifically said after last night's game that he went to Breslow to slow down the lefties in Seattle's lineup.  So the "one out" part of LOOGY isn't true, but without Miller and Morales still not back he's the only option the Sox have.  Britton could be a very good second lefty for the back end of the season if need arises (he did get bombed last night in his first AAA start though).

Not really.  He cruised through the first few innings then gave up some soft hits mixed with a couple hard hits.

They call that being a left-handed reliever. LOOGY is definitely not what he is. There aren't even that many of them in use anymore, because it's mostly a waste of a spot.
