Rays top ChiSox 8-3.
David Price gets his 1 st win, but the story here was an exchange he had with HP Umpire Tom Halliomn.
http://www.tampabay....sations/2117934
The Rays' 8-3 Sunday victory was followed by controversy as Rays pitcher David Price claimed home plate umpire Tom Hallion cursed at him and Hallion denied it.
Price said as he was walking off the field after the 7th inning, Hallion told him to "throw the ball over the f-ing plate." Price said he hadn't said anything to Hallion, and that for Hallion to do so was "terrible.''
"For him to talk to me that way, no ...,'' Price said. "Something has to be done about that."
Hallion, however, told a pool reporter he did not curse and that Price was lying.
"I'll come right out bluntly and say he's a liar,'' Hallion said, voice raised. "I'm denying what he said I said, pretty strongly.''
Hallion said he presented a less offensive version: "I said, "Just throw the ball." That's all I said to him'
Price was informed of Hallion's reaction and stuck by his story, saying Hallion was the one lying.RELATED NEWS/ARCHIVESomeone give me the definition of a coward please
Someone please give me the definition of accountability...
That still raises a question why Hallion approached Price at all. Hallion acknowledged Price didn't say anything to him walking off the field, but that it was obvious he didn't agree with Hallion's calls.
"He might not have said anything but he certainly gave enough body language to insinuate that he was pissed off,'' Hallion said.
As for ejecting Jeremy Hellickson, who was among a number of Rays in the dugout reacting to the situation?
"He was told to knock it off, him and Morse (Moore) were at the dugout rail and I told them to knock it off,'' Hallion said, "And he thought it was okay for him to have his final comment, at which time he was ejected.''[Last modified: Sunday, April 28, 2013 7:25pm]
UPDATE, 7:24: Here is some more from Price:
"I don't know what he thinks he heard, you can ask anybody that was sitting in the dugout and they all erupted as they should have when you hear an umpire speak to a player that way, something has to be done about that, and that's why i told you guys. That's terrible. If my own dad doesn't speak to me that way, some frickin umpire's not going to speak to me that way. He wouldn't say it to me off the field.'
Had he had trouble with Hallion before? "I dont even know his name,'' Price said.

Here's the video of the "incident" and the pitch fx of the call that Price was pissed about. Interesting fallout with the umpire calling Price a "liar" and Hellickson and Moore tweeting about it and calling the ump a coward and a liar in response. Would be nice to see an ump disciplined for baiting a player and making himself the center of attention for no good reason....but most likely the Rays top 3 starters will just get the fuck squeezed out of them for the next few weeks as retaliation.

It's early in the season and all, but games like last night's are rapidly convincing me that the Rays are going nowhere fast this year. This team cannot afford to blow many 7 run leads and expect to contend. They're just not going to out-hit folks often enough to squander an offensive outburst like that. The bullpen has been very shaky. Maddon got cute by trying to ride Rodney for a 5 out save, which was probably his best option and a good call, but just goes to show the state of their bullpen and a little bit of early season desperation setting in.

Torres is most likely on his way to shore up the pen for the next few days. I imagine Archer will get the call to fill in for Price's starts, but it could be Odorizzi.

Odorizzi, Archer and Torres are all prob ready for prime time. At some point they're going to pull the plug on Hernandez and slot one of these guys in. The bullpen will be amazing in September!

Peralta has been good and Rodney ok for the most part. McGee has been awful and the magic bullpen pixie dust the Rays use on all their retreads that become star relievers has seemingly worn off Farnsworth.

Even though it's early, Price's mediocre start and health is very worrying. He is integral to the Rays' future (not because he will be here for long, but because the team is dependent on his trade value being strong enough to soften the blow of his departure).

The pen allowed a run in the 8th and and the 9th but managed not to cough it up. Alrx Cobb goes to 5-2 as he allows 1 run in 6.1 IP. Desmond Jennings and Kelly Johnson each homered and Luke Scott drove in 2.
