Farrell wouldn’t rule out replacing Tuck with someone from outside the organization, but conceded that at such a late stage in the offseason, it’s more likely the Red Sox will promote from within. Roving catching instructor Chad Epperson and former Red Sox catcher Rich Gedman are the most sensible in-house options. -Lauber, Bos. How much instruction do bullpen coaches actually give? Not sure what Gedman brings other than expertise in tossing the mask away when racing to backstop after passed balls. OTOH if it keeps him from screwing up swings in Portland....

Ok, sorry, this thread sucks. But Gedman... would have to be on my all-time-least-favorite-lumbering-white-guy Sox team along with Gator and Dauber and you name 'em.
