Saw this in the Herald today: http://bostonherald....oias_leadership It's from the Hot Stove, Cool Music discussion the other night, and I thought it was interesting for a couple of reasons. First, I love Pedroia's competitive attitude, regard for the game, and am so glad he's a member of the Red Sox. Secondly, it gives some insight to leadership on the team and what the front office values.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes at that as well....the anecdotes from Farrell and Hazen were what I was focused on.

I love Pedey, but I don't even want to know what trades he thinks Ben should make.

"Immeasurable intangibles"?

What's wrong with this? Isn't he known to be the only star on the 2011 team that didn't behave like a six year-old?

So if Jeter is "Captain Intangibles", what is Pedroia?

"Lieutenant Intangiibles"?

"Corporal Intangibles"?

I think since he's such a little guy, "Corporal Intangibles" fits best.

Yeah, I knew that one was coming. :)

I think he needs to get a little bit closer to 3000 hits before he gets promoted over Jeter.

edit: But you know, we do have equal opportunity in the military, and certainly do appreciate diviersity with regard to promotion boards. So if there is a quota for little people, I can see a good argument.

Honestly, nothing really. To me it just sounded awkwardly written, or perhaps superficial. I'd have rather had a longer sentence or two that highlights his intangibles, though maybe there wasn't enough space for that (or perhaps it's not legal.) :D As for a nickname, I like the reference to the Gunnery Sergeant.
