I don't know how many people saw my posts in the Fantasy thread about the golf game I am doing, but I'm going to repost them here. It seems like a lot of fun and will definitely cause me to pay attention more to tournaments I normally wouldn't have:

In case anyone was wondering:

The guys I'm doing this with have their own way of setting it up. In typical fantasy golf leagues, there are pools of players (A through D ranked) and everyone picks one player from each group. The players can overlap in that format.

These guys have been doing their own league since '95 (when Greg Norman was the first pick) and have it basically set up like this:

15 to 20 guys per year, $100 per guy.
8 draft rounds, everyone has their own players.
The season starts with the second tournament of the year, and concludes at the PGA Championship.
Every week there is a prize (depending on how many guys signed up) and there are also year end rewards.
Its a point system. I don't have the sheet with me, but its something like 20 points for a win, 10 for a top 10, 5 for top 10, 1 for making the cut. *****
Highest point total wins weekly, and year end.

This year there are 16 guys, and I had 8th pick in the draft, which was serpentine style.

My team is:

Dustin Johnson
Rickie Fowler
Tom Gainey
Kevin Na
Sueng Yul Noh
Charlie Wi
Rickey Barnes
Frederick Jacobsen

It was a lot of fun. I'd be up for running something like this for SoSH if we could get enough interest.

*****I actually have the actual point totals now, and its as follows:
points winner 15 playoff loser 12 2nd 10 3rd- 5th 7 6th - 10th 5 11th- 20th 3 ties go to highest finisher.

2 points:

1) That team fucking sucks (you relied on too many mediocre guys having repeat years)

and

2) I'm definitely in if you can find enough interest

Eh, its harder than it looks once you get past 4 rounds or so and 60 golfers are taken. Since its PGA events only, I tried to get guys who play in a lot of events. I probably won't do well in majors, but in this league they count just the same as the Sony Open.

I am WAY in for the fantasy league here. I will admit I thought your team sucked, too, but it really does thin out very, very quickly in the first two rounds.

If we really want to do this, and could get like 15 people, I say we do it starting at the Match Play Championship and ending through the Tour Championship (because all of the big names play the FedEx playoffs).

I have no problem heading it up. Its easy enough on a spread sheet. 15 guys, $100? Thats $1,500. If we could find a way to omit 3 events, it could be $50 per week. If you wanted to omit 7 events, Majors could be doubled. Should I start a new thread? Nobody but DrewDog bit in the fantasy forum.

I know Death would be in on this.

The only thing I'd need help with is the money part. I don't do a lot with Paypal. Someone would have to walk me through how to set up something like this, or take care of the payments.

If you omit 7 tournaments and make majors double it could work, we'd just have to reach a consensus on the tournaments. something like the RBC Canadian open would be a no brainer I'd think.

Why omit the tourneys? If you're doing it for 50 bucks for a weekly win, I would be happy to contribute 350 extra. All good. I'd also be ok taking care of the money. I have a PayPal account or people could send me checks. I'd toss in an extra 500, in fact, just to make it a little more sporting.

I dunno, I guess to make it nice and even.

Really I am in for whatever everyone else wants to do. I'd draw the line at $100 per person though.

John, though I appreciate your generosity (which you have shown 50x over in charity work for the site) I don't think I'd feel comfortable with you pitching in more. Whatever everyone else wants to do is fine, but I just don't know if I like that.

Much like real life, I'm hazy on the finances---$100 total from the 15 entrants, then weekly winners get $50 each? That's cool with me, but I don't think we should go too much higher, but I'd be down for Majors being worth more. I trust whoever (whomever?) with the cash.

Can you flesh out the rules a bit more---roster of 8, all 8 "start" each week? What about if some young kid comes out of nowhere, what's the waiver policy? That type of stuff...

EDIT: Will this be SoSHers only? I have someone that might be down for this if we can't fill out the owners. If so I could make him sign up.

Yes, all 8 start each week. This forces you to not only pick the top guys, but also guys who need to grind out checks to make their exemptions for the following weeks.

It doesn't have to be SoSHers only, but whoever handles the money should be paid in full before we start drafting so nobody gets burnt.

To be honest I haven't thought about the rules much. In the league I am in this year, you have your 8 and thats it. If someone gets injured, tough cookies. I could be convinced otherwise though. Perhaps one transaction each, by the halfway point of the season, with priority given to the people with the least amount of points?

I'm breaking this out to see if we can get more interest. We'd need at least 15 guys to do it. I have a friend that wants to be involved, and I think DrewDawg may as well. That gives us:

Zomp
Zomp's friend
JohnMD20
Fl4w
4Peters
DrewDawg
DD Friend?
VegasSoxFan
Lupe
BigMike?

That gives us hopefully 10. The earliest we should start would be the Match Play, so we have 6 weeks or so to garner interest.

Once we have 15 or more, I'll grab everyone's e-mails and we can start discussing rules, a draft, and whatever else.

Where are you RedOctober? DeathOfTheBambino? WayBackVazquez?

I'll be in guys, hadn't seen this earlier. Whatever the rules are is fine by me. Only question would be for me, are the WGC events gonna count (I think the Match Play is WGC, but I could be wrong) or just the strictly PGA events.

I'm fine with more money, more events, moreso than omitting events or doubling the value on events. With so many events, chances are everyone will win a couple of weeklies anyway, so dropping the weekly total to $35 or $25 is just as easy as omitting events. Or just increase the buy in. Don't really care on my end, as long as it's clear.

The biggest issue I think you'll find is tracking results, etc. I don't think you can run a league like this on Yahoo or Sportsline, but I'll bet there are fantasy sites out there that allow you to tailor it however you want, otherwsie, it seems like a lot of work to try and track via the threads, etc.

I'm not sure it will be that hard to track. I can do it myself with an excel spread sheet, and I'm sure a few people will help. Really, if we do it like the point system I originally posted, you only have to worry about the top 20 guys of each tournament. A lot of guys will gain 0 points every week. I may amend it to have one point awarded weekly if you make the cut or something like that, but we can discuss it once we get enough guys.

I've been in a couple of golf leagues over the years, and I think that omitting events should be avoided if possible. Better to have either a higher buy in or a lower weekly payout. Part of the fun of this is having a rooting interest in shitty tournaments. And watching your players do well in a tournament that got bumped really blows.

Just my two cents.

Stapleton makes 15, not including your friend. I say we see if we can get 20 guys. $2000 gives us a bunch of options on weekly payouts. We can give it another week or two to see if people want in. My friend is definitely in, I'm going to ask a few more.

I'm definitely in favor of giving points for making the cut, especially if we're going to increase the points for majors. It will give a chance to teams w/o superstars to stay competetive - there will be different strategies to building teams.

Each person drafts 8 golfers. Every week, beginning at the Match Play Championship, there will be points awarded for where your golfers finish. The highest accumulative point total for the week will win the weekly money prize.

The points go as followed,

Winner 15

Playoff Loser 12

2nd (plus ties) 10

3rd-5th (plus ties) 7

6th-10th (plus ties) 5

11th-20th (plus ties) 3

21st-cut line 1

For the match play, even though its once a year, points will be:

2nd round losers 1

Sweet 16 losers 3

Elite 8 losers 5

Final 4 losers 7

Runner Up 10 (12 points for extra holes)

Winner 15

Money payouts:

If 20 people are in, that gives the bank $2,000. Everyone will send their $100 to JohnMD's paypal. We'll keep track of tournament winnings, and do the payouts at the end of the season.

Between the Match Play and Tour Championship there are 33 tournaments, but 3 of them are the same weeks as the British Open, and two WGC events. In my opinion, we omit the non major and non WGC events, so we'd throw out the Puerto Rican Open, The True South Classic, and The Reno Tahoe Open.

That gives us 30 tournaments.

Payout structure:

Every non major tournament $50 per week (x26 tournaments= $1300)

Majors $100 per week (x4 tournaments= $400)

Year end highest total $300 $300

-------------

$2,000

If more people sign up, their $100 will be added to the year end prize.

Here are the list of tournaments we'll be using:

Feb. 20-24: WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, Ritz-Carlton GC at Dove Mountain, Marana, Arizona
Feb. 28-March 3: Honda Classic, PGA National GC, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
March 7-10: WGC-Cadillac Championship, TPC Blue Monster at Doral, Doral, Florida
March 14-17: Tampa Bay Championship, Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead Course), Palm Harbor, Florida
March 21-24: Arnold Palmer Invitational, Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Florida
March 28-31: Shell Houston Open, Redstone GC (Tournament Course), Houston
April 4-7: Valero Texas Open, TPC San Antonio (AT&T Oaks Course), San Antonio
April 11-14: Masters Tournament, Augusta National GC, Augusta, Georgia
April 18-21: RBC Heritage, Harbourtown GL, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
April 25-28: Zurich Classic, TPC Louisiana, New Orleans
May 2-5: Wells Fargo Championship, Quail Hollow Club, Charlotte, North Carolina
May 9-12: The Players Championship, TPC Sawgrass (Players Stadium Course), Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida
May 16-19: HP Byron Nelson Championship, TPC Four Seasons Resort, Las Colinas, Texas
May 23-26: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, Colonial CC, Fort Worth, Texas
May 30-June 2: Memorial Tournament, Muirfield Village GC, Dublin, Ohio
June 6-9: FedEx St. Jude Classic, TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee
June 13-16: U.S. Open, Merion GC, Ardmore, Pennsylvania
June 20-23: Travelers Championship, TPC River Highlands, Hartford, Connecticut
June 27-30: AT&T National, Congressional CC (Blue Course), Bethesda, Maryland
July 4-7: The Greenbrier Classic, The Greenbrier (The Old White TPC), White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia
July 11-14: John Deere Classic, TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Illinois
July 18-21: British Open, Muirfield, Gullane, Scotland
July 25-28: RBC Canadian Open, Glen Abbey GC, Oakville, Ontario
Aug. 1-4: WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Firestone CC (South Course), Akron, Ohio
Aug. 8-13: PGA Championship, Oak Hill CC, Rochester, New York
Aug. 15-18: Wyndham Championship, Sedgefield CC, Greensboro, North Carolina
Aug. 22-25: The Barclays, Liberty National, Jersey City, New Jersey
Aug. 30-Sept. 2: Deutsche Bank Championship, TPC Boston, Norton, Massachusetts
Sept. 12-15: BMW Championship, Conway Farms GC, Lake Forest, Illinois
Sept. 19-22: Tour Championship, East Lake GC, Atlanta

Injuries and subbing players:

After the Memorial, we will allow each player to drop one golfer, and add one golfer. This will be done in order by total points for the season, with the last place player picking first. If there are more injuries or a desire to add players after that...too bad. With 8 golfers everyone should have more than enough to have fair shots.

Draft: Since most of us are on the board, it would make sense to do a draft in a thread. 8 rounds and 20 people mean 160 picks. That is going to take a long time because not everyone's schedule will match up. Obviously it will be serpentine style. What about a time limit? Is 12 hours reasonable to expect someone to check online and make a pick? 24 hours? We have 6 weeks or so until the match play, so we do have time, but I can see some people taking forever.

Leon, definitely taking more people. The more the merrier!

Oh! and with regards to the draft. I'll do my best to update everyone when they are on the clock. If people want to PM me their numbers, I can send a reminder text. If something happens, and the persons time has passed and they haven't updated the thread...how about we agree to give them the next available golfer in the world rankings?

Also, does anyone know of a good draft order generator?

I am going to update the people who paid in Post #47. Let me know if there are any problems. BigMike first on the board.

And regarding a random number generator, you could use this. You could assign a number to everyone in the order they paid(or whatever) and then run it on your own. That's a simplistic way to do it, you could also pick names out of a hat.
