Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Diamondbacks have signed Cody Ross to a three-year, $26 million contract. Rotoworld and mlbtradrumers confirming.

Why can't we get guys like that?

Tough to lose a guy that really wanted to be here. Throughout all the chaos last year, Cody always had a great attitude. I suppose David Ross will continue with the "Ross .gifs" but it won't be the same. Best wishes Cody, we hardly knew ye.

Crazy market. Ross signs 1 year, $3M deal, has year consistent with his career norms and turns it into a 3 year, $28M. IIRC, last year he was looking for 3 years, $21M and found no takers. Good for him and good luck to him.

Unless the plan is to move Ellsbury and slide Shane Victorino to center what's the upside in signing Victorino for 3/$39 over Ross at 3/$26? The Sox probably won't be competitive this year so why woudn't you want Ross who's going to hit better then Victorino this year then next year or the year after if you wanted to move one of the two wouldn't it be easier to move the guy with more power - Ross whos also cheaper? Not to mention Ross is RH and Victorino is LH. Oh well, best to you Cody and thanks for being a Dirtdog!

There are always Cody Ross', who is going to trade assets and take on his contract when you could just sign someone?

Next year: Kubel, Morse, Murphy, Beltran, Choo, Cruz, DeJesus, Hart, Pence, ect

Next years: CFers: Ellsbury and Granderson and.... maybe Crisp.

And let's not freak out about Ross' power, he had a good half of season and then fell right back into the .140-.190 ISO range again that he has been for years.

Can there be a word filter that bans people for that Lobel line? Ross was a decent player, but he's not someone you sub in at CF for any stretch if/when Ellsbury is out of the lineup, and he doesn't have the range needed for Fenway's RF as an everyday player. Move on, the memories of his role on a 90+ loss team should be enough to keep you warm at night.

The differential is crazy, for sure, but really I think the 1/3 was crazier than the 3/28 is. It still kind of amazes me that we were able to get him for that.

So you can have the flexibility of moving Victorino to center if you can move Ellsbury?

Ross didn't get 300 PA's till '08. Game not dependent on speed like Victorino, who is bigger decline risk at $13 more million.

Victorino only plays the role of a starting OF. Ross can play starting OF and play the bench really well, as he's shown throughout his career.

At great deal for Ross. Did everything the Sox had hoped he could for them. The guy was a real pro here last season. This will be his big pay day, good for him.

Are the D-Backs aiming to play Ross in CF every day? Or is the plan to shift Parra there? Certainly Kubel can't handle it, and one assumes that if they thought Upton could, they'd have tried him there already.
