"Stone Hands" Shiancoe I understand, but what the hell happened to Stallworth?

If they were just going to replace Stallworth with Branch, what's the need for IR? Are they being generous or something?

Too bad, Stallworth seemed to still have some burst something Branch hasn't had for a couple years now. Could have been a factor down the stretch.

Agreed. I like Deion but Stallworth does offer something different. Oh well

I'd take Anthony Hargrove... unemployed and now absolved from suspension!!NFL Network reported that Gronk is unlikely to return this week, so not sure what the Shiancoe spot is for.

Thanks for the catch Donte. Enjoy the IR.
I hope BB handles the return-IR slot better next season.
Shiancoe made Mallet's trade value go down.

Meh, not sure the return-IR slot use was poor this year.

Was Gronk IRed? Why do they need to make a move for his return?

They don't. the speculation is probably about positional redundancyWas Gronk IRed? Why do they need to make a move for his return?

Jeff Demps would've been better

Reports are that he's chomping at the bit to play and might be ready. Many feel that they team will still hold him out until week 17 and even then, just play him enough to knock the rust off. My feeling is that he may play this week, sit next week then play sparingly in week 17.Shiancoe's release MUST mean that either Gronk is coming back for the SF game or that they're signing another TE. There's no TE on the practice squad. I don't think there's any way they go into the weekend with only 3 TE's available to them.

If his role was to run deep outs and catch perfect passes against man coverage (which Brady won't see again), I don't think he's irreplaceable. He dropped the first one that Brady dropped straight into his hands, too.

I've been wondering about this - to what extent is there a re-injury/exacerbation risk with this type of injury? What reports? As of two days ago he was still in a cast. Playing him before he is 100%, or the playoffs, is craziness.

Shot in the dark, but Ballard was PUP'd, not IR'd, right? Meaning he could, in theory, return at any time? I seem to recall at the time hearing that a 2012 was very unlikely, but not completely impossible. But I haven't heard a peep about him since.

How was it mishandled?

Who would they have used it on instead? The player can't come back for 8 weeks, so not on Gronkowski or Edelman. Unlikely they would've used it on Hernandez, considering he only missed 3 weeks before coming back for the Seattle game.

Here's the big question underlying all this: Why can they only return one player per season from the IR?
Posted 12 December 2012 - 08:51 AM
Because that's what the new CBA says you can do.
