Stallworth got hurt when he was tackled on his TD catch. There was a shot of trainers working on his ankle on the sidelines afterwards, so it's not a work.

If his role was to run deep outs and catch perfect passes against man coverage (which Brady won't see again), I don't think he's irreplaceable. He dropped the first one that Brady dropped straight into his hands, too.

Reports are that he's chomping at the bit to play and might be ready. Many feel that they team will still hold him out until week 17 and even then, just play him enough to knock the rust off. My feeling is that he may play this week, sit next week then play sparingly in week 17.

Since he was a street FA he obviously isn't a huge loss but he is being replaced by a decidedly slower albeit much better route running street FA. I just would have liked to see if Stallworth had anything left in the tank. He could have been useful for when a team opts to flood the short/middle zones ala NYJ and force Brady to beat teams deep.

I've been wondering about this - to what extent is there a re-injury/exacerbation risk with this type of injury?

A broken forearm is a broken forearm. If it hasn't yet healed fully, and putting too much pressure on it more easily cause another break? Or are we just looking at Gronk with a brace being less dexterous in catching the ball and less forceful in blocking until he's 100% again and the brace is off?

Mike Reiss on ESPN radio this morning said verbatim, "Gronk is champing at the bit to play" to describe the situation. But then said the training staff is really trying to hold him back to make sure he's 100% healthy.

My guess is that it's Branch plus a second WR. They're very light on WR, and if the 49er game is more of a 3WR game, they'll want 4 non-Slater WRs on the roster.

Demps was an undrafted rookie. There's no way they're using the IR-Return designation on him in the first week.

Because that's what the new CBA says you can do.

It's also worth looking at the players that have been waived over the year as potential IR/return tag beneficiaries over Shiancoe. Maybe they could have used it on Salas instead?

Also as an FYI, the 'designated to return' is a minimum of six weeks off the active roster, not eight as someone stated earlier.
