You have to stop with the USC stuff.  USC is going to put it on the Eagles by 20+ points.  They are completely stacked with talent, and have improved their coaching staff significantly.

Yeah, USC probably has better skill position talent in their intramural leagues than we have right now. We have zero playmakers. Maybe I'll give Amidon half credit.

I am convinced it will still be a game in the 4th quarter. Next year will be key for BC to keep recruiting momentum. If they can win 7+ games they will have a great class with some late surprises.

As for game coaching the real unknown is Day. Chip Kelley thinks highly of him and there has always been a positive buzz. If Day is the real deal then Addazzio can let him call the offense while dictating tempo, 4th down calls, etc.

Just saw that Harold Landry DL commit was just offered by South Carolina. Landry reiterated his commitment to BC. Clemson has also offered. Looks like this will be a theme and the reason why I think on field success will be important this year.

Deuce Finch has left the team....any one know why?

So ... I feel like I can get back to it. Addazio continues to impress by picking up two more recruits despite the Spring Game being cancelled, Jon Baker, a local 3 Star online man and Cohee, a local LB with some nice offers.

So here we are in April and BC already has 7 recruits with impressive offer lists and 3 star averages. One of their unrated kids (Landry) has picked up offers from Clemson, South Carolina and NC State after his commitment. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Outlow at 4 stars before all is said an done.

The feeling around the program right now is amazing and the recruiting continues.

Daz is proving just how much Spaziani sucked. We just lost 10 games and we're pulling in a class that might be able to stack up to one of TOB's top classes when all is said and done. I'm very encouraged.

Hopefully these kids actually sign.  There is a long way to go until February and no matter how good Addazio is, this is going to be a rough year because of what he inherited.

Absolutely. I've said it over and over. They need to win 6-7 games this year to hold the class. Players like Outlow, Landry and the QB are going to have lots of solid offers. They need to show the ship has been righted.

I am actually confident the team will have a decent year this year. Chase looks good and the OL had a real coach.

Next year will be tough.

What Daz is doing is impressive and I can't say anything except great things about it. BC hasn't recruited like this in my lifetime as a fan. This class is stronger than anything TOB ever brought in, and Daz clearly has a blueprint to put talent on the field.

The only thing I've heard I haven't liked is the idea of run 1st down, run second down, pass third down (which to be fair he has said himself in interviews to a degree and Chase has also said) that implies a real rigidity to his offensive system (which I have no idea why this is the case) but they win games, I don't care how they do it, even if I think his idea of balance is to run a hell of a lot more than I'd prefer.

Yeah, 4-6-3, it's going to be really tough to run, run, pass this year with the RB talent that we have in place. Losing Deuce Finch really hurts.

That's not what they've said about this year. They've said that they need to run more to establish the pass. As bad as Spaz was they still ran the ball too much. The issue wasn't the ratio it was the play selection. Also, when you read the interviews with players like Amidon you get the sense that we will see more screens, short routes, etc. Day is the X factor here. I don't think you can look to Addazzios past and assume anything.

Not to mention the running game on his past teams were arguably the strongest areas of the team, what with Tebow and his inability to throw a 10 yard pass, the Pierce guy playing for the Ravens and, of course, Montel last year.

DS -- I watched his 10 minute interview after the spring practice plus a couple with Chase - they're all saying there is going to be a lot more running. Again, I'm not going to critique something I haven't seen at all, I just don't think BC from a talent level is going to be able to win with the power run game for at least 3 seasons. Maybe after a couple recruiting classes they can. But your overall point holds, Day is going to be making these decisions. I just think there's a pretty rigid philosophy in place regardless of what Daz has said about being flexible. I hope Im wrong.

So you have a senior QB who has started since his freshman season and you're not going to throw the ball?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

SA: What I know right now is work ethic. What I know
right now is attitude. I still don’t know that I know who’s capable of
what on the football field, so you’ve got to get the pads on. No matter
what we do, where we head, the starting point is going to be a two-back,
one-back, zone-power counter concept, a real strong pro-style running
game, play-action pass, nakeds. That’s going to be a starting point, no
matter what direction we ultimately head.

They are going to run, no doubt about it.  However, from reading the summaries of the scrimmages and the response from Amidon below, I think it's going to be a more balanced attack and not "3 yards and a cloud of dust".  One recurring theme from the spring scrimmages is that they are installing a quick package "designed to tire out the opposing defense".  This is more like the Oregon model as opposed to Wisconsin.

Here's the Q&A involving Amidon from last week.

Does that concern you at all, that it’s going to be more geared towards the run game?

AA: No, not at all. It’s not like we’re not going
to pass, it’s just, I would say if anything, us having the run game is
going to help the pass game. I would definitely love to run the ball
more than 20 times. Last year we were averaging around 20 carries a
game, and if we could get to like 30 or something, that would help the
pass game out a lot, in my opinion.

I think, in reading this Q/A,  that Dazz is very realistic in what he is expecting and the goals are acheivable for this year. He admits it will take some time and it will take a few years for his program to be installed. Having said that his goals for 2013 are to win the opener (Villanaova) and be bowl eligible (6 wins). Based on the scheule they have I would say they should win the opener and they should get at least 6 wins. I would suggest that they should go at least 3-1 in OOC games ( NOVA, Army and NMSU) and then pick up 3 conference wins (Maryland, Wake and Syracuse??). That's 6 wins and a berth in the Armed Forces Bowl against Houston or SMU. That is probably where this year is heading. I won't mention USC again but....you heard it here first!

Addazio, who was hired away from Temple to replace Frank Spaziani,
didn’t inherit the kind of team he wants to build. He used the 20
allotted practice sessions to evaluate personnel and implement his
schemes, hoping to develop a power ball-control team despite having
strong-armed quarterback Chase Rettig, a stable of skilled wide
receivers and only one experienced tailback.

After all that's gone on I'm still optimistic about the hire. However, it does puzzles me that Addazio doesn't seem to have interest in exploiting the talents of the players he does have onboard. A senior QB who has started since his freshman year should have plenty of opportunity to throw the ball.

At this point we will see what it is when they take the field in the fall.

Interesting to hear about Andre Williams running with power and passion, but honestly I'll believe it when I see him actually hit a hole rather than shuffle his feet 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage before he gets going.

Daz talks a lot, and he does seem to want to go in a different direction.   It does seem to be working with recruits, but the test is not April, it is next February.  I do read some things from recruits that make it sound a bit used car salesman, tailoring the message for each recruit, and well stretching the truth at times.  But it is hard to say what he said, versus what the recruit heard, versus what the recruit told the reporter.  And face it the used care salesmen type is often very effective at this level

I suspect Fall will come and BC will throw the ball more often than it runs it, largely because there just isn't much on campus at RB. I think they will try to force the run early,  and that is likely to fail, which will force them to use the talent they have. I think Daz knows if he wants to get momentum going he needs to be in a bowl this year, because 2014 will be a lot harder

It sounds like he is trying to instill a mindset of being able to run the ball.  Last year they only ran the ball 345 times all year.  That's way too few attempts.  They will throw the ball this year.  They have to.

Right, you just hope that he is able to install a system, coach kids up so that when BC has 3rd and 2, 4th and 1, they actually might have a chance at gaining a yard on a running play.     Seemed like 15+ times last year they failed on this and at critical moments,  now some games it wouldn't have mattered (sorry they weren't beating FSU whether they scored on the first drive or not).  But it clearly cost them 1-4 games.  Obviously the Army game, but the Miami and Northwestern games were very winnable if they could have converted a short yardage play or two, and I believe there was one other one

Not to be contrarian, well I guess I am, but maybe Dazz is looking at Rettig and sees a kid who....well....ain't that good. I think Chase has some raw talent but he never really had a consistent coaching staff to work with. He had a different OC every year and now he has another one in Day. As a result, rather than progressing through a system and learning his craft he was always adjusting to fit the new scheme. As such his talent leveled off. He's probably the best they have on campus but maybe Dazz doesn't see a leader in him. maybe he sees a kid who plays the position and until he shows Dazz he can take the team and drive them down the field and score in a pressure situation he (Dazz) doesn't want to rely on Chase. It could all change in the Fall but I think Dazz is looking at Chase and saying..."this kid ain't much." I blame all of that squarley on Spazz and his joke of a regime.

Did any BC players get drafted? And if not when was the last time not one senior was picked up by an NFL team in any round of the draft? Kinda says it all doesn't it?

2005.    And that was a 9-3 team, and a program on the upswing approaching an epic high.     So having no one drafted is kind of a meaningless standard.

Huge get for Addazzio. Connor Strachan 4 star LB from Mass has committed. It's amazing what a little personality and passion can do on the recruiting front.

This is shaping up to be a very good class, especially so when you consider this team only won 2 games last year.

I've been a doubter but man Addazio has me drinking the cool aid.

That kid looks like a young Ted Johnson. Massive neck. Regardless, Addazio continues to really impress me on the recruiting front. We're winning battles against a lot of big programs.
