Not to temper the collective enthusiasm, but this is an excellent point.

Not sure I'm seeing why we should be worried about that in this specific case---his track record is very consistent and generally has been hi-lev innings. For him (unlike some guys, who have never been hi-lev relievers), I tend to think the tremendous depth of Texas' pen last year doesn't really say anything about Uehara's skillset.

Kinda hard to accumulate high leverage innings when you have Nathan, Ogando, and Adams.

So Bard languishes in AAA again?

I have nothing but good things on this. One year, reasonable price. I mean if he is a disaster then minimal harm. Completely no brain signing. In a good way

The Pitching staff along with the Guru Manager will leave no stones unturned and mental and physical improvements shall bring him back...other wise no point in retention...

Bard's former self is a huge Lorelei that we'd better avoid...

Not too worried about it, he's pitched high leverage innings before and displayed no signs of mental issues.

I'd say this puts Cherington at 2-2-1 in signings so far -- Napoli and Uehara, I like; Gomes and Victorino, thumbs down; Ross... everything depends on whether, how or when they trade Salty. I'd call it a .500 record, which is about where I'd put the 2013 Red Sox right now.

Agreed on the 2-2-1. Sadly I dislike the bad signings a great deal more than I like the good ones. Victorino continues to boggle my mind.

Per brimac the signing is now official. Sox 40-man now full with Napoli, Drew & Dempster yet to be added.

Also, per Alex Speier, "Uehara will wear No. 19 -- Beckett's old number."

Also on the plus side; he's a weird-looking guy! All good relievers look weird somehow.

Appropo of nothing, I wonder what Keith Foulke is doing right now? Perhaps driving to get some Copenhagen in his WEEI truck.

I have it on good authority that he is living in North Phoenix, dating (engaged?) to a Mormon, and plays in a slow-pitch softball league.
