Hit .299 vs. righties last year with an overall 128 OPS+ Can't hit lefties for shit. Are they trying to sign him for one year to platoon at 1B/3B? Yankees paid him $900K last year.

The Chavez stuff should be in its own thread, rather than shoe-horned into this one (and that's not a knock on you, since you didn't mention him first.) Anyway, I'd have to believe this is merely to drive the price up for the Yankees, who have A-Rod on the shelf and are now suddenly seeking a new full-time third baseman.

Eric Chavez might be a cost-effective LHB to back up Napoli and Middlebrooks, or to pinch-hit for the team's growing stable of RHB platoon outfielders.

Also, 9 road homers and 7 at home in 2012.

The more I read about the moves the Sox have made and are said to be contemplating, the more I suspect that they're leaning towards going with a 5-man bench/6-man bullpen next year. And particularly in that context, Chavez would make sense for us. He can still hit righties, as Jordu noted, and that's a skill that's in short supply on the roster at this stage. He can probably play 1B pretty well, and he could back up WMB at third.
Having a long leash with Aceves helps to affirm this belief.

Can he play centaurfield?Hmm, who else could desperately use a corner IF who hits RHP well? This story makes a lot of sense, even if Chavez isn't really in the Sox plans.

Nice. Yet another chair disappears as the Yankees parade around the 3B market mulberry bush.
Which increases the likelihood it's Youk filling the chair.

Yankees fans should prepare for their cognitive dissonance if Youkilis is their starting third baseman. Yankees fans loathed him when he wore opposing colors.

Mark Reynolds? He's still floating around as far as I know. He was Frank Catalanotto Part Deux against Sox pitchers last year, no?Yankees fans should prepare for their cognitive dissonance if Youkilis is their starting third baseman. Yankees fans loathed him when he wore opposing colors.

Yes, and Johnny Damon was a disgrace until he wasn't, blahdy, bhady, bhah. Cognitive dissonance is a lay up for Yankees fans.Yankees fans should prepare for their cognitive dissonance if Youkilis is their starting third baseman. Yankees fans loathed him when he wore opposing colors.
Then again, I'd root for the dead body of Sadaam Hussein on the Red Sox if he could help them win games, so I'm hardly one to talk.

Wait until he's putting up a .680 OPS and playing poor defense wearing their colors.

Looks like Indians stepping up their intensity on talks with Kevin Youkilis. Would love to land him for 1B.

In terms of range, Youk & Jeter side by side would be like replacing your car's wiper blades with toothpicks.
I want to see this almost enough to make up for the thought of seeing Youk in pinstripes. Especially with the Sox so loaded up on RHH...

This thread should probably be moved but Cafardo checks in via tweet:

This would really be a better deal for Youkilis unless the MFY's are doing something silly like doubling what Cleveland offers. Or maybe I'm selfishly hoping to keep my lunch down and projecting on Youk...
