Morosi:

#RedSox may not be done making moves yet. They have interest in Yunel Escobar, source says.

Why are we paying premiums for good character guys? Don't understand.

IF this is an actual "thing," and before this thread turns into another parade of vomiticons...

Isn't it safe to say Farrell had input in this? He just coached Escobar in TOR firsthand so presumably knows his game on and off the field. I'd doubt the Sox pull a Jets and Tebow their manager. And he is being surrounded by purported character guys in the Sox clubhouse if he was signed.

If this was another sport and another team - say, the NFL and the Patriots - the meme would be "something something Belichick something Patriot Way" and no one would be concerned.

And if Iglesias isn't ready, then for a reasonable deal, Escobar is the training wheels to the future, with a slightly better MLB bat.

There's definite red flags with Escobar re: character. Atlanta dumped him, Toronto was evidently trying to do the same (can't really fault them for upgrading to Reyes), and now Miami is apparently looking to move him. I agree that Farrell is the ultimate judge as far as anyone within the organization...but there's also the matter of him having had a pretty crappy 2012 and a similarly crappy 2010.

Totally agree with this sentiment. Patriots made this type of move with Dillon and Moss without much concern. Clubhouse environment was considered so strong that one questionable personality would be put in their place. Not sure if the Sox have established a comparable clubhouse atmosphere just yet but by all accounts Gomes, Napoli, and Victorino along with Ortiz should be a good foundation.

Also, its not just Farrell that has first hand experience, both Louvello and Butterfield coached in Toronto last year. Gotta figure they know more about him than the average fan. Escobar is signed for $5M in 2013 and then has $5M team options for both 2014 & 2015. If he straightens his act out then you have a good piece in place until Bogarts arrival and if he doesn't you move on with minimal cost.

Wouldn't an Aceves for Escobar trade make sense, as they would also be ridding themselves of any lingering Aceves issues.

hello Alex Gonzalez? He's another "former All Star" that the Sox can add to their collection as they attempt to market the 2013 squad, seems fit the front office's modus.

Nearly $7 million dollars through his age 39 season:

The Giants and second baseman Marco Scutaro are in agreement on a three-year, $20MM deal, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Adding: Scuts has never had a three year deal. 37 years old seems like a bad time to start.

Good.

If the Sox pursue a shortstop via trade I'd rather it be Asdrubal Cabrera, but signing Drew remains my preferred route.

They saved us from picking up a solid SS who makes $5 million a year, and got him for themselves for very little. They've been kicking our ass in recent years and just got better, while we remain without a SS. Farrell and his coaches know the guy well and reportedly were fine with bringing him in.

But that's all okay, because surely no Red Sox players are assholes.
