The only thing dumber than the generalized "running up the score" mantra is what those Dolphins players said about how the Pats conducted their successful clock killing scoring drive.

It's never a surprise when members of the media opportunistically kill the Pats. It's what they do. That opposing NFL players could mouth those words about play selection is mind boggling.

Seattle runs a fake punt up 30. There's a new one.

I don't care, but I don't understand the reasoning for that from Seattle's point of view, unless they really do want to embarrass the Bills. Wouldn't you want to keep fake plays as surprises and not give your future opponents tape on how you run them?

Not if you have no intention of running a fake punt, but want the other teams to be thinking about it on regular punts.

FWIW, Pete explained after the game that when the defense is in that formation, the fake punt is called automatically. In other words, the play wasn't sent in from the sidelines. The upback saw the formation and audibled to the fake on his own. It sounds like Carroll would have called it off if he knew it was coming.

edit: Let me take that back. Looks like they could've called it off after all, but didn't. In which case, fuck 'em. http://espn.go.com/n...t-buffalo-bills

Fuck em? They were trying to make first downs, just like Pete said.
