I'm desperately trying to wrap my mind around this statement...

OK, that was a bit hyperbolic but the idea that Gronk is the difference between an elite offense and a questionable one is ridiculous. The Pats have scored more points and gained more yards than any team in the league. Now all of a sudden, with Gronk out, the team is going to collapse against the fucking Jets. I can't believe the pessimism in this thread.

I love Gronk, I understand his importance in both the passing and running game, but as long as Tom Brady is behind center, this is a chameleon offense that will figure out ways to score points. I am not concerned. I can't believe how down some of you are.

Jeff Howe@jeffphowe

Chandler Jones, Logan Mankins and Rob Gronkowski have been ruled out for tomorrow.

I'm a little more nervous than I thought. No Jones and no Mankins plus Gronk is troubling. Just get out of there with a win somehow.

Someone would say this time of year everybody is nicked up some, no Gronk, and I think they want to beat the Jets.

I want them to beat them too. I think even without Gronk, Hernandez, Jones and Mankins the Pats are still a better team.

I won't complain if he plays.

I'm not confident either but just take a deep breath and repeat 10x.... "Mark Sanchez.... Tom Brady. Mark Sanchez.... Tom Brady...."

I'm not that concerned. It will probably be a run and screen heavy attack, lots of Woodhead, lots of Vereen.

24-13, Pats.

Amen to this. I will be concerned before the Jacksonville game, no doubt. Actually the worse the opponent the more nervous I usually get.

So how do we attack the Jets D without Gronk? IIRC, Trufant did a good job with Welker in Week 7, and Cromartie probably won't have too much trouble with Lloyd.

A heavy dose of Ridley between the tackles (per FO the Jets are 29th and 30th in AYL on runs inside the LT and RT, respectively) and exploit TE matchups in the middle of the field? Some more Edelman? Will we see Shiancoe play a role in the red zone? More 3-WR sets?

Edit: I'm also going to this game, and taking my girlfriend who never watched a game in her life until I turned her on to the Pats last year. It felt like I'd played a cruel joke on her after the SB.

They should run the shit out of the ball tomorrow. Steven Jackson carved them up on Sunday, but they didn't give him as many touches as they should have. Then, you use play action to dupe Landry into coming up and then go over the middle.

Also, screens with Vereen and Edelman should be featured too.

Shit happens no ones saying the games a lock. 75 percent chance of winning according to the moneyline. If Gronk was playing people on here would be talking about scoring 60 tonight after last weeks performance. Do we really think the loss of Gronk, is bringing us down to the jets. They're a bad football team (24th DVOA). They lost to miami by 21 a week before. Patriots played like shit when they played the jets, I put it more on the pats than the jets playing well. They need to go in there and pound them running the ball on the edges, there bad at defending the run. Make them play a bigger defense.

Having connolly tonight would be huge.

I smell another blowout.

One word: 2007.

Most of the media commentary this week has overlooked the fact that a Patriots offense coordinated by McDaniels put together among the greatest offensive seasons in league history while Gronkowski and Hernandez were still attending college classes in warmer climates. Sure, that offense got the best season in league history from a WR. But it also had Watson at TE and Maroney at RB.

With Pou'ha, Ellis and Scott all limited by injuries, the Jets defense is vulnerable up the middle, especially against the run. I see a heavy running game tonight, with disguised runs and screens to Ridley and Vereen setting up play actions downfield to Lloyd and Salas. I'm also expecting a good game from Shiancoe. FO ranks the Jets 23rd in the league against TEs, and Shiancoe will be seeing plenty of single coverage in the middle of the field as the Jets apply their usual (if memory serves) blanket coverage on Welker and protect the flats against screens.

To keep up with us, Sanchez and the Jets offense will have to play mistake-free football, and I just don't see it.

For anyone still considering going, tix are plentiful (around 1700 left) and relatively cheap on Stub Hub. The low end before fees is $40. Two tix are available in the Mezz level Club at around the 40-yard line at $100 apiece* before fees ($50 less than the nearest price, which is itself 50% off of face).

* And the desperately priced tix are now gone a few minutes later.

Trufant has been IR'ed, so we'll likely see Kyle Wilson on Welker, which is a big mismatch in Wes' favor.

With Chandler out, I wonder if we'll see more 3-4 base D to maximize our sweet LBs. Our Dline can still 2-gap and keeping Cunningham, Hightower, Nink, et al on the field seems like the best way to generate a consistent pass rush.

They don't have the most talented rushers, but they certainly scheme pressure well and I think having Cannon in there is pretty worrisome.

That's not what Hillel said. Vollmer has been dealing with a back issue since the preseason, and this is the first time the team has been on a short week, so it's not surprising to me that he either wouldn't be able to go or he would be iffy. If it's the latter, Bill has held out players in the past who fall into this category (last year - Chung, Hernandez). I.e., the equivalent of 'could play if it was a playoff game'.

unless his back is worse than it has been previously i find it unlikely that bill would hold him out. football players play. if it's really been bothering him that much i find it hard to believe he'd be playing as well as he has. therefore i think he either tweaked it or there's something else.

It could be 'worse' because he hasn't had normal rest this week. Or he aggravated it. Or he suffered a new injury. We have no idea, but at the very least your statement that Bill doesn't manage his roster with lingering injuries - and the playoffs - in mind is not correct. You can ignore the well-publicized Chung and Hernandez examples if you like.

Bill or any coach isn't going to risk losing a player like Vollmer for the long-term if they can hold him out and buy him 2 weeks of additional rest. It's the smart thing to do.

i'm not ignoring it. and neither you nor ed said "worse" - if it's "worse" of course he could be holding him out. if it's bad enough every thursday that he needs more rest that's also news which hasn't been mentioned/noticed fore the previous games. whatever dude. "no it's not" is just wrong.

In warmups, TE Daniel Fells lines up at right wing of field-goal protection unit, the spot previously occupied by Rob Gronkowski.

Also in warmups, Cannon was at RT and the starting secondary was Talib on the left, Dennard on the right, and McCourty/Gregory at the safeties. Unless BB changes it before the game then Chung isn't starting.

If you want 49ers/Pats tickets, I would try stubhub about 4-5 hours before kickoff time. They have pretty great deals around that time and the pick up area is the hotel near Gillette Stadium (the one in Patriots Place, a 6 minute walk).
