Rosenthal:

Inclusion of Reyes unconfirmed. What we know: Buerhle and Josh Johnson to #BlueJays. Escobar, Hechavarria to #Marlins. And more both ways.

Johnson, Buerhle, and Reyes contracts are worth a combined $156.75MM $160.75MM to $182.75MM, depending on who is paying the Buerhle bonus and if Reyes' 2018 option is picked up. The Punto trade still wins.

Live coverage on sportsnet.... 9 player deal? Henderson Alvarez also going to Miami. John Buck and Emilio Bonafacio also coming back to Toronto.

So...
Johnson, Buerhe, Reyes, Buck and Bonifacio
for
Alvarez, Escobar and Hechevarria

that's 8. I missed who the 9th guy was.

Jake Marisnick is the 9th guy. Going from the Jays (well, their AA affiliate) to Miami.

This for sure raises the stakes in the Sox' rebuilding. The AL East is going to be insanely difficult.

Unless the 9th guy is someone like Brett Lawrie then... wow. Sucks for the rest of the AL East.

Holy hand grenades, batman

One source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter link) that Johnson, Buehrle, Reyes, John Buck, and Emilio Bonifacio are all going to Toronto.

As a Met fan I feel bad for Reyes. As a baseball fan I feel bad for Marlins fans. I mean, Loria is absolutely vile. It's a miracle he didn't send an apology letter to season ticket holders for a terrible 2012 season, then announce he will sign Josh Hamilton as a scam to show he wants to 'compete', confirm this Blue Jays trade behind the scenes and not leak it to the press, secure those season tickets after signing Josh, Fedex Cocaine to Josh's house, voild the contract due to 'wreckless behavior', keep the season ticket sales and then make this trade. I bet he at least CONSIDERED such an elaborate scheme.

I bet he would poison santa's cookies, when he was a kid, so he could have more toys for himself. You're a mean one, Mr Loria.

I don't know what people were expecting, every FA contract the Marlins hand out comes with a yes-trade clause.

I'm sure the people of Florida are happy to have handed over a few hundred million dollars to this team.

Dammit, I was hoping we'd be able to trade Lackey for Beuhrle. Now a ton of talent is going to a division rival and we're still stuck with horseface.

Only problem here for the Jays -- and it's nitpicking, because WOW -- is that Buehrle might not play all that well in the AL East, and Johnson's arm is liable to fall off at any minute, and Reyes is good for 30 days off a season. But still, goodness gracious

Yep, Rogers Sportsnet corrected themselves. Much better prospect then what Marisnick who I mentioned earlier. He's a top LHP prospect. The Jays may regret giving him up in a few years, but I'm sure if he pans out he won't be in Miami by then anyways.

I'd rather not do what go us in trouble in the first place. Let the Jays get rid of their young talent for a physical wreck of a pitcher, an injury prone SS, and a soft tosser that will get lit up in the AL East. We were finishing last anyways this year, more incentive to stay the course and build with youth and from within

Situations like this are at the point that I can't really blame Loria - if local government is stupid enough to fall for a scheme this obvious (it is), why not pursue it and follow through? He gets a taxpayer-funded new stadium, increased return on TV rights, STH, etc - and now he can fall right back into revenue sharing as if nothing happened. Rinse and repeat.

Last time the Blue Jays made a deal of this magnitude, they had to give up all-stars Fred McGriff and Tony Fernandez. They got Joe Carter and Robbie Alomar, and they won 2 World Series in the following 3 years. This time they got the return without giving up as much major league talent. Yikes.

more news.... Trade may also include Anthony Gose and/or JP Arencibia. If so, at least Miami is getting some value back. Too many rumours and unconfirmed reports to keep on top of it now. I'll wait for it to be finalized before adding to the noise.

If he were avaiable, you dump everything you can for stanton unless your farm system has Strausburg or Harper or Trout. End of damn story. You don't futz around with 'well, I want to keep this prospect/etc'. Your farm, nobody's farm, is that good. Let's see if he is available because that guy would be a monster for you guys. Sure, he's good for a dl trip or two but...he's super young and will only get better. I hope you guys push for him.

Massive deal is in the works, but you would assume MLB is going to take a hard look because of long-term ramifications for MIA market.

Unfortunately, I suspect the talent barf stops here. The Marlins have to retain *some* surface appearance of interest in long-term competitiveness, don't they?
