Maryland is going to be top 3 in the ACC this year. Dez Wells and Alex Len are two extremely talented players.
I was pretty stunned they were picked sixth in the conference preseason poll. I'm not sure how anybody in the league deals with their size inside.

I strongly disagree. They have youth issues and I think there are coaching questions for them. Turgeon seems to be a seven recruiter but I'm not sold.

Duke and NC State are the only 2 teams that are much better than Maryland. UNC, FSU, and Maryland are all close in talent. I think it's not a stretch to say that Maryland can finish above those two.

After a poor shooting weekend, Grinnell point guard Jack Taylor was given the green light to shoot his way out of a slump.
It only took 108 shots for Taylor to make a mockery of the college basketball record books.
Taylor scored 138 points to shatter the NCAA scoring record in Division III Grinnell's 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa.
Taylor, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wis., made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field and added seven free throws on 10 attempts in 36 minutes.
http://www.google.co...d81a98bd9763e07Taylor had 58 points at halftime. Then he got hot. Taylor was 32 of 58 shooting — including 18 3s — in the final 20 minutes and averaged an astounding four points a minute in the second half.

A guy on the losing team scored 70 and shot 34/44. The other team only took 6 threes

Hoyas take it to UCLA.
Shazzam!
And then played Indiana tough. I get the distinct impression that there aren't any great teams out there this year, and that the top 10 is basically just pollsters throwing things against the wall and seeing what sticks.

The box score for that game is crazy http://pioneers.grin...h=mbball&id=575

Jesus, Grinnell has TWENTY players on their roster that got minutes.

I don't care if this is the Duke/UNC thread or an overall ACC thread.
That was the most fun I've had watching a VT basketball game in years. They have .. an offense? That's competent? That they can run and create shots and score? They push the ball and attack? And aren't constantly looking over their shoulders to see if they're going to be taken out and yelled at? And the coach isn't banging the floor and scowling? And they could have scored 100 if they wanted to? And then Coach Johnson ran around the student section high fiving kids after the game.
*swoon* I think I'm in love.
And now at 7-0 after knocking off #15 Okie St 81-71 in Blacksburg. It was a close game the whole way that stretched out in the last 30 seconds as OSU missed some 3s and VT made all their FTs.
More importantly once again the team looked competent and well coached. There was no panic as OSU got to a 1 possession game several times. Every time the defense made a stop and/or the offense ran a good set and got a good shot off to extend the lead. Night and day from years past. They might even find themselves ranked come the next poll. Unreal.
Erick Green had 2 early fouls (2ish min in) but the bench held it together and JJ made some great defensive adjustments. Green scored 28 (helped by making all his FTs down the stretch) to set a career high for the 3rd straight game.

Very true. And sad.Twitterverse reporting that Rick Majerus has died. Sad, if true.

And Sunday, we saw a link (can’t find it now) where Ryan Harrow spoke of the pressure not to get in to the NBA but to get out of Kentucky in a year.
Nerlens Noel will go high, Willie Caulie Stein might, but the others – Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, Kyle Wiltjer – if they decide not to go, they’ll get shoved down the rotation.
Consider who’s coming next season: the Harrison twins, Dakari Johnson, Marcus Lee, James Young, Derik Willis and potentially Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle.
The whole thing depends on people leaving early. But if the NBA isn’t valid, then transfer is the only option – and that isn’t getting you there any quicker.

What an amazing game in Butler.
That was fucking awesome. What the hell was with that inbound by Gonzaga? Seems like he was trying to rainbow the ball over the guy in front of him and just assumed his teammate would come down with it? I thought the ball must have been tipped at first but doesn't look like it.

So right now I think here are at least 8 teams with a shot at a 1 seed (Michigan, Duke, Syracuse, Kansas, Arizona, Florida, Louisville, Indiana)
As of today my S-curve would probably be
1 Seeds: 1. Michigan 2. Florida 3. Kansas 4. Duke
2 Seeds: 8. Arizona 7. Louisville 6. Indiana 5. Syracuse
3 Seeds: 12. Ohio St 11. Butler 10. Michigan St. 9 Gonzaga
4 Seeds: 16. Minnesota 15. Cincinnati 14. Witchita St. 13 Oregon

First meeting ever between Butler & Temple. It's been a great game so far (ESPN2), with no more than a few of points separation for most of the night. Bulldogs getting some distance down the stretch, and a 3 puts them up 6 with 6:00 to play.

Bunch of "upsets" today:
* Host Nova knocks off #3 Syracuse 75-71 in OT
* Georgetown beats #5 Louisville 53-51 in DC
* Iowa St over #11 KSU 73-67 in Ames
* Badgers by a point vs #12 Minnesota in Madison 45-44
* SDSU embarrasses #15 New Mexico, 55-34. Yup, a measly 34 points.

Well, so much for that. Rhody led 32-30 at the break, and now Butler's scored 10 unanswered over the first 3:00 of the 2nd half. Three Ram turnovers haven't helped, and they've already called 2 time-outs this half.
