40 man roster moves.
C Robinson Chirinos, who missed the entire 2012 season after a spring training concussion, and OF Brandon Guyer, who missed the second half after shoulder surgery, were reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and put back on the Rays 40-man roster today.
Also, LHP Frank De Los Santos was added to the 40-man roster. De Los Santos, 24, was a combined 7-2, 2.11 in 51 games between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham in 2012.
Rays also make a qualifying offer of $13.3M to BJ Upton

In a surprising and significant move, the Rays have extended the contract of 3B Evan Longoria an additional six years through the 2022 season, for an additional $100-million.
According to the team release, Longoria’s new contract incorporates the salaries for 2013 through 2016 from his original contract and extends six more years through 2022 for an additional $100 million. The deal also includes a club option for 2023.
Longoria was signed through this coming season, at a salary of $6-million, and the Rays held options for 2014 at $7.5-million, 2015 at $11-million and 2016 at $11.5-million. The six-year extension is worth $100-million, for an annual average value $16.6-million, and there is an option for 2023.
Longoria will donate more than $1-million to the Rays Baseball Foundation.

Rays sign former Sox 1B James Loney. 1 year, $2M with another $1M in incentives.
Typical Ray deal. Feels like usually these happen a bit later in the off-season for them, so somewhat interesting that Loney jumped so quickly at a seemingly team-friendly deal. No downside for Rays, at worst a competent first baseman on the cheap with no long-term commitment, at best he's still young enough to recapture some of his earlier Dodger form and be yet another Rays scrap-heap outperformer.

Rays minor league catcher David Wendt has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for Methylhexaneamine, the league announced Monday.
Wendt, who played for Double-A Montgomery last season, is the seventh Rays minor leaguer to be suspended this past year for violating the minor league Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
His suspension will be effective at the beginning of this year.

Good pickup. The bullpen should be solid this year. Looks like the only remaining hole they have to fill is a DH bat, or another outfielder to create a DH rotation. None of the obvious DH options on the market look too exciting, and the Rays recent history with over-the-hill all hit, no field types has been abysmal. It's the one spot where Friedman has never been able to work his reclamation project magic.

I think the Rays are going to use Johnson more in some sort of rotation in the outfield and this is a pretty clear sign that they won't be rushing Myers up from AAA.

Yeah, I think they want to rotate him and Zobrist between 2nd and RF
