Cashman acknowledged the possibility that Jeter may start the season on the DL.

"I can't rule it out until we see how the next 10 days goes," Cashman said Wednesday afternoon at George Steinbrenner Field. "I'm not saying he's going on the DL, but I can't tell he won't be. We've got to do what's right for him and what's right for the team."

Yanks play with Wang again. Could blow up in their face as they attempt to rotate Wang

Yankees' starting pitching is considered a strength of the team but with Hughes slow to return, Nova and Phelps are currently the 4-5 starters and both have been lit up this week in ST starts.

Nuno might make the team as a lefthanded reliever behind Logan. Cashman hinted at that on Friday.

Yeah, watching him struggle to rediscover his stuff in Dc the past couple years, he is not the same pitcher he once was.  Has lost velocity and while at times he would be cruising, suddenly he would lapse into throwing batting practice - just everyone starting to hit line drive after line drive off him, and his control comes and goes.  Not the same guy you remember pre-foot injury.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 5s
Sources: Yankees in talks with Angels for outfielder Vernon Wells. Lots of money would go back to New York. Deal could be done today.

LOL, whichever team has just gone against Cleveland's second line pitching will rocket to the top of that list.

Jimenez and Carrasco are their #2 and #3 guys actually, I believe. But also they've already faced Verlander, Lester, Scherzer, Buchholz, Fister, in the first 8 games.

#Rockies announced that they've traded INF Chris Nelson to the New York Yankees for cash considerations & a player to be named later.

Nelson was a bit of an abortion in the field for the Rockies, but only because of mental lapses and rushing throws.  The skill set is there; he was a shortstop in the minors, and his bat is pretty good.  Not a bad fill-in for the Yanks, and I assume whatever the PTBN is will be fungible.

Yeah, Colorado had already DFAd him, so the PTBNL is probably just a warm body.

Does he play 3rd or SS for the Yankees? Or is he just a backup with Nix and Nuñez still getting the majority of starts?

The vast majority of his minor league games were at SS. Colorado only seemingly started playing him at 2nd and 3rd base when he got to AAA, with Tulowitzski's lock on the SS as a consideration. So you would think that he's a capable glove at SS, because guys who can't really hack it at SS typically get serious time at other positions before AAA.

This is somewhat unexpected good news, contradicting what they said when Granderson got hurt:

Joel Sherman
@Joelsherman1

Girardi said Granderson is getting reps in LF/RF in Tampa and made sound like Gardner will stay in CF, but not definitive. #Yankees
