They got their man. No it will be interesting to see what sort of staff he assembles.

There will be much gnashing of teeth I they gave up any quality prospect though.

4-year deal, eh? They gave Francona a 3-year deal with an option when they originally signed him. Surprised they went to four.

Farrell had leverage and knows it. Francona had nothing whatsoever to bargain with. Farrell's got a prior track record with the club, one with some pretty impressive highs.

I'm glad it's done. Last season's managerial "search" was a complete joke, and even if you don't like Farrell you have to appreciate that they acted liked real businessmen, targeted their man, and got it done quickly rather than fool around for too long and hire a joke manager.

I'll break shit if it's anything somewhat useful. Seriously, a 2-time champion GM cost Chris Carpenter. What's a manager with 2 years of sub-.500 ball going to get? It should be essentially nothing.

It'll be hilarious if they send Carpenter.

This exactly who I was thinking. Toronto needs help at SS and he's never going to hit enough to be a starter in Boston.

That was my thought. Maybe they like Xander at short now - I think Law tweeted something about him possibly sticking there a month or two ago.

If it's Iglesias, I hope we get something of value with Farrell.

RDLR faced exactly 4 MLB batters, only getting two out. Dont you have log a full inning for JP Morosi to consider you a major leaguer? Since we now have at least one clue, going through some possibilities, outside of pitchers:

The Jays are set at 3B, SS and C, so Lavarnway, WMB, Salty and Iglesias are probably staying. They certainly could use outfield depth, so the Sweeny possibility in the other thread makes sense. A little worse than that is that Kalish also makes some sense. I can't see Ciriaco or Gomez making sense.

EDIT- I forgot just how unwanted Yunel Escobar made himself at the end of last year in Toronto with the whole eyeback slur episode, Iglesias makes some sense after all. PR wise, the Jays could say they replaced a SS and Manager they no longer wanted with a top prospect.

Well, they got the quick part, now just wait to see if it was painless. Happy with the quick.

And at this point, anyone other than Farrell would have been an obvious second choice and questions would have lingered. This is Ben's man. Time to sink or swim.

Why would the Jays want Iglesias? They already have Adeiny Hechavarria to play SS if they decide to get rid of Yunel Escobar.

According to Pete Abraham, the trade of players is required by MLB rules:

@PeteAbe: Per MLB rules, compensation has to come as a trade, player(s) for players(s). So there will some sort of two-way deal.

Seems odd that you can't just trade a player for a manager, but guess that's the rules.

However, an industry source has informed WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford that the Red Sox will send infielder Mike Aviles to the Blue Jays. The Red Sox will receive a player or cash in return, as Major League Baseball rules require that a trade involving one player moving to a team involve either cash or a player going to the other party to the trade.
