Depressing that it's the 2 month anniversary of the arrival of our truck to port, but now it's really so close, we can practically feel the STATS truck rumbling down the lane. Our truck has survived the long journey and made it through the overcrowded port in Dar es Salaam. It is still waiting to clear one or two legal steps, and have its post-shipping service by Toyota, and then make the 10 hour drive to Arusha. It’s a pretty good road the whole way if you can avoid the maniacs who drive the inter-city buses and the occasional ox cart or goat. We've found a few artists eager to interpret the SOSH-selected pictures on the sides and back of the truck. So within two weeks, we should be (finally) taking STATS out to the villages. Stay tuned for updates!
This post makes me happy. As a huge Patriots fan, I need some happy these days. Thanks for the update.

It's here, it's here! LULULULULU (that's the sound of us ululating for joy).
Fresh off the boat, white, pristine and gleaming, the STATS truck is at our office. We're dying to take it out to the field, but first we'll have to paint it up with the likes of Ted, Pedro, and the 2004 team. Then it's out to the villages to spread the word about how 2013 is gonna be the year for the Bosox... while fighting AIDS and stuff. More pictures soon!

Alright, we can't help ourselves...One of our young program officers documented the truck's first trip to the gas station on her facebook wall, and now our counselors (they administer HIV tests and counsel people on their results), wanted in on the action! So here are Paulina and Efrem, with everything they need for testing packed into the toolbox, and eager to take the new truck out to the field!

They've got the artist set to do the paintings to. The Ted Williams one is going to have to wait while I deal with copyright. The people who own it are in the process of selling their company, so they're dealing with the other peoples' lawyers.

So guys, what do you think? This is our artist's first cut at doing one of the images. It's more pop art than photo realistic, but I think it's kind of amazing. Does this work for us, or should we got more realistic?

I love it - but is Tek wearing two mitts? Or is one the mask, one the mitt?

Couple of suggestions:
Lose the Cardinal, his body language gives him away. The skintone (especially of Hale) is crazy white for Africa. And without some reference to the grass and the crowd it feels more Tron than baseball.

Yeah, I was thinking at the very least DeMarlo Hale can continue to be black.

Looks great, pop art makes it more interesting than an attempt to paint a photo.

I've taken the suggestions and sent them on to the artist via NendaSoksi. I think we're going to need to drop the logo, sadly, as we don't have permission from the Sox.

You couldn't pick a better time to try and get their permission...they need all the good press they can get...

I don't really want to go through the process and delay getting the truck decorated.
They've been really unresponsive throughout the process, and I don't really want to deal with it.

This is beyond disheartening.

This is beyond disheartening.
They never told me to go screw or anything. They just basically never got back to me on anything ever. I got one follow up email once and then could never get anything else going.
I don't say that to crap on the Sox--they do lots and lots of amazing charitable work, and if we'd put in through the normal process for an auction item, I'm sure we would have gotten something. I just only discovered the process when we were already about done, so I didn't bother.
I've just found that getting a response there is a slow tedious process, and I don't want to deal with it. especially on something as likely to be a grind as use of the logo. We will do fine without it--so do not lose heart!
