I believe the last time NY swept a series of more than 2 games in TOR was the opening series in 2003, Clemens/Pettitte/Mussina got the Ws. Hopefully that 9+ year drought ends today.

That will teach Ichiro never to knock in 5 runs again for the Yankees.

Hats off to pitching coach Larry Rothschild for "fixing" Nova over the past week or two. It wasn't an overnight fix but Rothschild got Nova to adjust his grip on the slider and it paid off in Saturday's game. Also helped that Nova stopped throwing pitches over the middle of the plate.

I think Girardi is in a bit of a tough position currently, he has platoon guys who expect to play no matter what depending on whether it's a LHP or a RHP. This is presumably why he went with the RHH lineup on Friday against Romero even though Romero is way tougher on RHH, guys like Jones and McGehee had been sitting for a long time before that.

And again, quite possibly the weakest 5 RBI game in the history of MLB. :)

This has to be the worst lineup TOR has fielded in a really long time, Escobar and Johnson both sitting today with minor injuries, Rasmus still not back, Bautista, Lawrie, Arencibia and Lind all on the DL.

All that's left is Encarnacion and the little sisters of the poor, hopefully I'm not setting them up for a reverse lock with this post.

I don't think Jeter is reading SOSH today. Base hit up the middle to lead off the game.

And, of course, TOR is hammering Hughes.

Rajai Davis... He's always been a bit of a pest in Sox games.

Well, back to the golf. 7-0 Jays with 2 outs in the 4th. Two straight dismal outings for Hughes.

When the Yankees rally, you'll be sorry you missed their enduring winning spirit that Hughes could not destroy....

(Too much NBC Olympics coverage for me!)

Whoa, YES is somehow four pitches behind Gameday, that is a huge lag time.

I've never seen a lag like this on an allegedly live sporting event, I wish I had someone here to bet with ('the next pitch will be..."). Four full pitches!

Sometimes in the playoffs you get about a five-second lag between radio and TV. I find it's less stressful to hear the call on the radio before action unfolds on the TV. Except you have Sterling calling the play on radio and it often takes him five seconds to tell you what happened.

I've seen a lag of one or two pitches, but four pitches is a lot. Joba was coming in the game on Gameday before Rapada had thrown a pitch.

never seen a 4-pitch lag before. that's more than a minute. YES's signal must have been coming by Pony Express.

Two infield grounders with two outs cost the Yankees six runs today. In the fourth, McCoy hit a grounder to McGehee's left. He gave up on it. Jeter backhanded in the hole but his throw to first was a bit late. A run scored on the play and then Hughes gave up a bomb to EE to complete the carnage. Chavez or A-Rod cuts that ball off. McGehee looked like he wanted no part of the play. His defense at third base has been awful these past 10 days. Fortunately, he is the No. 3 option at 3B.
I didn't see the play in the fifth, a hit that clanged off Jeter's glove. Rajah Davis then cleared the bases to make it a 10-1 game. LoHud blogger said it was questionable whether Jeter could have made the play. Heard that before. For some reason, Jeter looks worse on turf than grass.

Yeah, I don't think it's a coincidence that NY hasn't swept a 3 game series in TOR since 2003, and Jeter has been the SS that entire time.

Pity Girardi as he tries to keep his ancient players fresh thru October. This could be a real problem going forward. Already is, some would say.
